VISION: Too often we read of some oversight by government officials and elected leaders that cost the taxpayers millions of dollars in lost revenue. When public officials and others play games with the taxpayers money, we all lose. We lose trust that those officials will remember us over the loyalties they have to their friends and associates. That trust can be restored through increased transparency. Whether it’s the use of funds or the use of the office itself for personal gain, the public deserves to know what’s happening.
When public officials and others play games with the taxpayers money, we all lose.
HARD WORK: You can expect me to work to maintain a high level of transparency in office. I will communicate with you frequently through all avenues and hope you will take advantage of letting me know your opinions on matters that affect our communities.
CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT: I need you to participate with me. Be engaged. Sign up for my emails and help me keep you informed about important issues and initiatives. In Provo, a group of citizens made a tremendous impact by working with Senator Curt Bramble to craft legislation that guided important Municipal Ethics by creating a Commission to establish the correct processes t guide investigations and complaints. That is the kind of influence that citizens can have upon the process and upon accountability.
REAL SOLUTIONS: While dealing with private funds donated to the Alpine school district, I saw how easy it was to lose track of where funds were being appropriated. At the state level, I will seek to create legislation for school districts that would level the playing field for all funds received so every dollar donated could be audited for its use within the guidelines established while encouraging superior educational opportunities for our youth. Transparency with funds is as essential as transparency with acts, whether legislative or administrative.
