Like many of you, I became involved at the local and state level on boards, commissions, business committees and chambers to give what I could to address the challenges facing our community. In doing so, I started to listen to the people closely involved in creating solutions. I became aware that the need for policy changes at the state level was essential to propel us towards better outcomes..
So, I decided it was time to throw my hat in the ring. I decided to stop the talk and start the long walk – the walk that took me to many of your doors to listen to your thinking and see if my voice was like your voice. I wanted to know if the changes in government policy and direction you wanted were similar to what I wanted.
I believe I heard that it is. I’m hoping to put my voice behind yours as we work to create policy to represent us.
The policy questions we face will require vision, hard work and citizen involvement. We need to come together and stop allowing special interests and government intrusion from making decisions that unnecessarily impact our homes and families. We need open, transparent communication with our elected officials. We need to be sure that the direction we are focusing on has the right balance to keep us flourishing.
Whether we live in mid-rise apartments in Provo’s downtown or on a Lindon farm, we need to seek solutions that address the diverse needs of our communities. I’d like to represent our collective ideas in creating policies that support that vision.
The long term needs of the State, Provo, Orem and Lindon will be better addressed by individuals who can listen, who know how to build coalitions and can bring together disparate voices to forge strong policy for the future. I am ready to accept the challenge of that opportunity.
You can count on me to work hard, listen carefully and move forward with focused vision to address solutions for economic development, sustainable communities and education. These aren’t just words. There are solutions to our problems. I have many. I’m sure you do too. Together, we will create better possibilities. There are opportunities to make the next twenty years for Utah the strongest economically and stay the best state to live in.
Let’s grow solutions for Utah, together.
